Medical conditions

  • Respiratory problems: Conditions like asthma, chronic bronchitis, or lung damage may pose risks
  • Heart issues: Heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or recent heart surgery are contraindications
  • Ear and Sinus Problems: Colds, sinus infections, or inability to equalize pressure can lead to injuries
  • Pregnancy:  Diving is generally not recommended during pregnancy due to the unknown effects of pressure on the fetus
  • Recent surgery or injuries: Especially if it involves the ears, lungs, or cardiovascular system
  • Medications: Some medications (e.g., sedatives or certain painkillers) may impair judgment or increase risk.

Behavioral/preparation Issues

  • Alcohol or drug use: Diving under the influence is unsafe and prohibited
  • Fatigue: Being overly tired or dehydrated can increase the risk of complications
