Medical Conditions:
There are several medical and situational reasons when diving is not allowed or strongly discouraged. Safety is the priority, so consider the following:
- Respiratory problems: Conditions like asthma, chronic bronchitis, or lung damage may pose risks.
- Heart issues: Heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or recent heart surgery are contraindications.
- Ear and sinus problems: Colds, sinus infections, or inability to equalize pressure can lead to injuries.
- Pregnancy: Diving is generally not recommended during pregnancy due to the unknown effects of pressure on the fetus.
- Recent surgery oriInjuries: Especially if it involves the ears, lungs, or cardiovascular system.
- Medications: Some medications (e.g., sedatives or certain painkillers) may impair judgment or increase risk.
- Behavioral/Preparation issues:
- Alcohol or Drug Use: Diving under the influence is unsafe and prohibited.
- Fatigue: Being overly tired or dehydrated can increase the risk of complications.
Environmental or Situational Factors
- Bad weather:
High currents, storms, or murky water can make diving unsafe.
- Equipment malfunctions: Never dive with faulty or incomplete gear.
- Flight after diving: Avoid flying for at least 12–18 hours (depending on dive profiles) to reduce the risk of decompression sickness
